Just connect this three-axis accelerometer and gyroscope to a PMOD or Wing socket on the StickIt! board and your XuLA or XuLA2 can detect lateral movements and rotations in three dimensions. There's even a temperature sensor included!

This module is primarily a breakout board for the InvenSense MPU-6050 chip, so you can read about its capabilities in the chip datasheet.

As with the StickIt! board, we made the entire StickIt! MPU-6050 module design open-source. All of it: bitstreams, schematic, PCB layout, documentation — everything!

FAQ

I ordered a StickIt! MPU-6050 module and all I got was a board. No software? No manual? No fancy box!?

When you order a StickIt! MPU-6050 module, all you get is the board. That's it. The module doesn't need any software itself. And the manual is online. As for the fancy box, well, sorry about that. Think of it as "saving the environment".

What kind of instructions are there for using the StickIt! MPU-6050 module?

The manual will tell you how to install your board, and it shows a block diagram architecture of how the FPGA connects to the MPU-6050 chip.

That's great, but how do I use the StickIt! MPU-6050 module?

Ah, you mean how do you access the accelerometer and gyroscope so the FPGA can detect the movement and rotation in three dimensions? We've provided an example design that reads the accelerometer and gyroscope and displays their raw sensor values on an attached PC. With that, you should be able to get your own designs up and running in no time.
